"I had no idea that it was a light-sensitive, fragile thing. It just didn’t occur to me. And that was it – that there was this two part process: this act of looking and observing, and then this technical part, this magic that you couldn’t fully understand or control but you could potentially harness. And that’s what I love about it still – it’s looking and it’s harnessing technology. It’s recording sight, recording what the world looks like. "

Seoul, September 2013
Last month, I had the privilege of traveling to South Korea. I live in one of the greatest cities in the world, but the change of pace in Korea offered a much-needed break and inspiration from the New York’s endless pace and energy. This is a compilation of my photos from the trip, long overdue.
Finally, my favorite pictures from Korea in one place. Take a look-see, if you haven’t already.

Tailor Coffee in 홍대.
Coffeeshop located on the ground floor, the roastery just one level above it. I had a 47-second triple ristretto shot here that was possibly one of the most complex, syrupy shots I’ve had in my life - all caramel and butterscotch and cherry.

A day for the cleaning for the fish tank.
My grandfather is the most meticulous man I know, and it’s always a pleasure to see him work with his hands, even with mundane chores like this.

This next batch of pictures
are quite possibly my favorite from my trip to Korea.
Lines, implied presences, and quiet.
“I think a lot about taking photos that are about more than capturing something beautiful, that have a heaviness attached to them. The heaviness doesn’t need to be negative, just convey a real sense of purpose. That’s hard to do.”
