Weekend snaps.
I’m trying to make an effort to take more photos on the weekends; after all, they only come around once a week, and give a different vibe.
Photos from Memorial Day Weekend: the weekend the L wasn’t running, the weekend hot soba was enjoyed in a cramped Japanese hole-in-the-wall, and the weekend of cronut success, Thai iced tea, and lazy hours in a sunny Washington Square Park.

The Steampunk at La Colombe.
The La Colombe in Nolita is one of a handful of coffeeshops in the U.S. to serve coffee using a Steampunk. This much-hyped machine by Alpha Domniche is best described as a mechanized siphon brewer, automating factors like time, temperature, volume, agitation, etc. and taking some of the inconsistencies of siphon brewing.
La Colombe was brewing a Kenyan coffee when I visited, and I wasn’t a fan of the dark roasting profile of the coffee nor the heavy-bodied, sedimenty brew. But it’s not without potential, that’s for sure. Rumor has it that we’re supposed to be getting one of these at Kaffe, so that’ll be something to look forward to…
